Beaches in Torrevieja: the best for enjoying the sun and sea all year round

If there's one thing that defines Torrevieja, it's its coastline: miles of golden sand, calm waters, and an atmosphere that combines the local and the touristy like few places on the Costa Blanca.
I've visited its beaches many times, and each one has its own charm, its audience, and its perfect moment. From the natural and expansive La Mata to the always lively Los Náufragos, Torrevieja has a beach for every type of traveler.

Why Torrevieja is a beach paradise on the Costa Blanca

Torrevieja stands out not only for its more than 20 km of coastline, but also for the variety of beaches it offers. Some are urban, with all amenities within easy reach, while others retain a more natural feel, ideal for relaxing.

Climate, services and coastal environment

The Mediterranean climate offers more than 300 days of sunshine a year, allowing you to enjoy the sea in virtually any season. Furthermore, many beaches have promenades, beach bars, accessible access, and leisure and sports areas.

What does the Blue Flag mean and why do most of its beaches display it?

One of the things that impresses me most about Torrevieja is that most of its beaches (such as Los Locos, La Mata, and Del Cura) display the Blue Flag every year, an international award that recognizes their quality, cleanliness, safety, and services.

This not only guarantees a pleasant swim, but also confidence in environmental protection and visitor care.

The best beaches in Torrevieja

Each beach in Torrevieja has its own unique personality. I'll tell you about my favorites and what makes them special.

La Mata Beach: natural, wide and perfect for relaxing

La Mata Beach is, for me, the best in Torrevieja. It's huge, natural, and even when it's crowded, there's always room to lie down peacefully. Its dune surroundings make it one of the most beautiful beaches on the entire Costa Blanca.
Ideal for long walks, sunbathing without crowds, and enjoying a more relaxed atmosphere.

Playa del Cura: the most central and popular

Playa del Cura is the most famous beach and is constantly mentioned on television when talking about Torrevieja. It's right in the center, next to the seafront promenade and natural pools, making it a very lively spot, especially in summer.
Cuando fui, me encantó su ambiente familiar y la facilidad para comer algo o tomar un helado sin alejarte de la arena.

Los Locos beach: lively and family atmosphere

North of the city center is Los Locos beach, another of the best-known beaches. It's wide, with clear waters and a more local feel.
It also boasts a Blue Flag, which is reflected in its cleanliness and excellent service. Here, the atmosphere tends to be more family-friendly, perfect for spending the day with children.

Acequión Beach: ideal for paddle surfing and calm waters

Inside the port, Acequión beach is one of the quietest beaches I know. It's my recommendation for anyone looking to paddleboard or swim without waves.
Its calm, shallow waters also make it ideal for families with small children or those looking for total relaxation.

Los Náufragos Beach: sports, fine sand, and lots of summer life

To the south of the city is Los Náufragos beach, with a very different atmosphere: youthful, sporty, and lively. In summer, beach volleyball and handball tournaments are often held, giving it a very fun atmosphere.
It's also well-equipped with showers, shaded areas, and several beach bars.

Local tips to make the most of the beach

Best time to visit and avoid crowds

If you're looking for peace and quiet, May, June, and September are the perfect months: good weather, fewer tourists, and all services operational.
July and August are busier, but also the liveliest, with activities and fairs throughout the city.

Where to park and what to bring

There are free parking areas at beaches like La Mata and Los Náufragos, although it's best to arrive early.
Don't forget to bring an umbrella, sunscreen, and, if you're keen to explore, a pair of snorkels: the water is so clear it's worth it.

Recommended activities: paddle surfing, snorkeling, and sand sports

Torrevieja offers much more than just swimming: you can paddleboard at El Acequión, snorkel near the coves, or participate in the Los Náufragos sports tournaments.
If you prefer something more peaceful, a stroll along the Paseo Marítimo del Cura at dusk is a perfect plan.

Other lesser-known coves and corners

Natural coves north of Playa de los Locos

Beyond the larger beaches, to the north of the city, there are small rocky coves ideal for snorkeling and photography. These are less crowded and offer a wilder view of the Torrevieja coast, such as Cala de la Zorra or Cala del Moro.

Small refuges for those seeking tranquility

If you like to discover places off the beaten path, there are coves like Cala Ferris or Cala Piteras, where the landscape of palm trees and turquoise waters seems straight out of the Caribbean. Perfect for escaping the hustle and bustle and snorkeling.

Frequently asked questions about Torrevieja's beaches

At Acequión Beach, for its calm waters.

Among them are La Mata, Los Locos and Del Cura, which have won awards for their quality and cleanliness.

Yes, almost all of them. But Los Locos and El Acequión are especially safe due to their gentle waves and services.

Yes, Torrevieja's dog "beach" is between Cala Ferris and Cala Piteras.

Torrevieja is much more than a tourist destination: it's a mosaic of beaches and coves for all tastes.
From the natural expanse of La Mata to the urban energy of El Cura or the calm of El Acequión, every corner has something special.
And the best part is that almost all of them have been awarded the Blue Flag, making this municipality a benchmark for coastal quality in the Valencian Community.

Personally, every time I return I have the same feeling: in Torrevieja, the sea is not just a landscape, but a way of life.
